XMM observation of the dynamically young galaxy cluster

چکیده
We present an XMM observation of the distant galaxy cluster CL 0939+4713. The X-ray image shows pronounced substructure, with two main subclusters which have even some internal structure. This is an indication that the cluster is a dynamically young system. This conclusion is supported by the temperature distribution: a hot region is found between the two main subclusters indicating that they are at the beginning of a major merger, and that they will probably collide in a few hundreds of Myr. The intra-cluster gas of CL 0939+4713 shows inhomogeneities in the metal distribution, with the optically richer subcluster having a

XMM-Newton OBSERVES CLJ0152.7−1357: A MASSIVE GALAXY CLUSTER FORMING AT MERGER CROSSROADS AT Z = 0.83
We present an analysis of a 50 ks XMM-Newton observation of the merging galaxy cluster ClJ0152.7−1357 at z = 0.83. In addition to the two main subclusters and an infalling group detected in an earlier Chandra observation of the system, XMM-Newton detects another group of galaxies possibly associated with the cluster. This group may be connected to the northern subcluster by a filament of cool (...
متن کاملXMM - Newton EPIC Observation of the Galaxy Cluster A 3667 ⋆
The Abell cluster of galaxies A3667 was observed with XMM-Newton in 6 partially overlapping pointings. We present here the resulting X-ray surface brightness, temperature, entropy and pressure maps and discuss the structure of this cluster on scales from 0.1 to 30 arcminutes. Based on these observations we refine the origin of the A3667 cold front to the displacement of the low entropy, high me...
متن کاملAn XMM - Newton observation of the dynamically active binary cluster A 1750
We present results from the XMM-Newton observation of the binary cluster A1750 at z = 0.086. We have performed a detailed study of the surface brightness, temperature and entropy distribution and confirm that the two main clusters of the system (A1750 N and A1750 C) have just started to interact. From the temperature distribution, we calculate that they are likely to merge sometime in the next ...
متن کاملPlanck early results. XXVI. Detection with Planck and confirmation by XMM-Newton of PLCK G266.6–27.3, an exceptionally X-ray luminous and massive galaxy cluster at z ~ 1⋆
We present first results on PLCK G266.6−27.3, a galaxy cluster candidate detected at a signal-to-noise ratio of 5 in the Planck All Sky survey. An XMM-Newton validation observation has allowed us to confirm that the candidate is a bona fide galaxy cluster. With these X-ray data we measure an accurate redshift, z = 0.94 ± 0.02, and estimate the cluster mass to be M500 = (7.8 ± 0.8) × 1014 M . PL...
متن کاملOn the Discrepancy between Chandra and Xmm Temperature Profiles for A1835
This short technical note addresses a large discrepancy between the temperature profiles for the galaxy cluster A1835 derived by Schmidt et al. (2001) using Chandra and by Majerowicz et al. (2002) using XMM. The causes of this discrepancy may be instructive for the Chandra and XMM cluster analyses in general. The observation used by Schmidt et al. was affected by a mild background flare that co...
